PROGRAMS

EYE ON THE FUTURE

photo of a man installing a meter on a houseSpringfield Electric is constantly aware of the impending possibility of deregulation and restructuring of the electric utility industry. However, we do not see deregulation as a "threat, but as an opportunity to improve on some of the long-standing strengths of public power. Customer service, reliability, and local control are just a few. The department is constantly taking measures to improve our customer service through shorter response time, employee training, newer equipment and technology. We are also updating our Web site, www.springfield-electric.com, to provide more interactive services and information to customers.

We feel that reliability will be a key issue in a customer-choice environment, and we are continuously maintaining our system through substation maintenance, equipment testing, tree trimming, pole replacements, and conductor replacements.

It is also the goal to offer more services and programs to a larger customer base than ever before. Springfield Electric now offers energy audits, power quality surveys, and load management services upon demand to all customers. Our website has a customer feedback section which allows customers to make new service requests, inquiries, and complaints 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Because customers may one day have a choice of power suppliers, we hope to build and maintain customer loyalty through excellent customer service, reliable power supply, and low rates.

Lastly, employee safety must never be compromised to accomplish any goal. It is the goal of the department to provide a safe working environment for all employees through safety training, supply and maintenance of personal protective equipment in compliance with OSHA laws, and routine equipment testing.

ENERGY RIGHT PROGRAM

photo of a new homeSpringfield Electric and TVA created the Energy Right heat pump program to help customers save energy and money through the use of high-energy efficient electric heat pumps.

A heat pump performs the same functions as a central air-conditioner, dehumidifier, and a central heating system. In the summer, a heat pump removes the heat from the air inside of your home and pumps it outdoors. During the winter, the system reverses itself and absorbs heat found in the air outside of your home and pumps it indoors. A single thermostat controls all components of the system and is installed by a Quality Contractor Network Dealer. This means that your heat pump will be installed to your satisfaction.

Financing is also available for the dual fuel heat pump. Here is what the Energy Right Heat Pump Program offers:

  • Access to the best contractors through the Quality Contractor Network;
  • Low-interest, fixed rate financing conveniently added to your monthly utility bill;
  • Expert analysis of heating and cooling needs;
  • Installation inspection provided by your local power company;
  • Recommendations of equipment sized for maximum efficiency and comfort;
  • Information on operating costs;
  • Ductwork design that fits your heating and cooling needs;
  • Excellent system installation to the highest standards;
  • Equipment warranty; and
  • A Marketing Representative to assist you through the installation process.

The All Electric New Homes Program is also provided to Builders of the Springfield Electric Department's service area. Homes are qualified using the industry-approved Home Energy Rating System (HERS) software that calculates a numeric rating of a home's overall energy efficiency. Over 300 homes are now under construction in the Green Hills, Brookside, Cross Creek, and Sleepy Hollow Subdivisions. For more information on these programs, contact the Springfield Electric Department.
